Lake Nepessing Bass Club Supports School Outdoor Club and Scouts

Lake Nepessing Bass Club proudly works to promote and encourage children to get outside and enjoy the art of fishing.

Twice a year the Lake Nepessing Bass Club donates their time, boats and experience to help Davison Middle School students learn the art of fishing.  Shelly Hayden, sponsor of the Hahn School Fishing and Outdoor Club, coordinates the once a year, day on the lake event.  With the help of local merchants and the Lake Nepessing Bass Club, the participants can fish on Bass boats and pontoons to experience something that they may have never done before.  It is a friendly competition that supports the Fishing and Outdoor Club’s motto – No Child Left Indoors. The spring event was in late May and 15 kids and their parents attended the fishing contest and picnic. Tackle boxes were awarded.

The fall event was September 29, 2012. The club had 56 kids 55 adults attend .The Kids fished out of our club boats along with their parents.  Three rods and reels along with a dozen loaded tackle boxes were awarded.

The kids compete for any legal fish whether it is a crappie, bass, perch or pike.  The smiles on the kid’s faces when they make a catch is rewarding for everyone.  For the boater, it means fond memories of the first time they “drowned a worm”.  For the students, it may be the start of an exciting new hobby that takes them away from video games and electronics and shows them the beauty of getting outside and dropping a line.  A skill that can last a lifetime.

The Lake Nepessing Bass Club’s constitution states “Promote and encourage youth fishing.”  The club members take this commitment very seriously.  They are committed to sharing their enthusiasm of fishing and promoting the sport they love.

The club also holds an annual fall event for” Handicapable” Scouts weekend for both youth and adults .

There was both a casting contest and face painting by the Shiner Clowns along with 10 rods and reels awarded at the night’s camp fire ceremony. Over 120 scouts attended.
